Swedish Tax Authorities chasing Swedish poker pros

As what can be seen as the Swedish “Black Friday”, on the 20th of November the Swedish tax authorities decided to contact thousands of swedish poker players in the attempt to tax them for poker winnings on non european poker sites, prior to Black Friday, such as Full Tilt, PokerStars, Ultimate Bet, Absolute Poker and Bodog Poker.

The poker players received a request from the tax authorities to supply them with their online poker nickname at the above mentioned poker sites online. As PokerSitesOnline.com has learned from their sources, is that the authorities are planning to use the online poker data mining site to reveal the winnings each poker player have had for the past years and later address a taxation on these players.

The Swedish law for taxes on poker is very simple; in the event you are playing on a none EU poker site, then your poker winnings are taxed at 30%. Since both Full Tilt Poker and PokerStars until lately were not licensed within the European Union, which they both are today, it is very likely that many of the top Swedish poker pros could face large taxations as well as penalties for not filing their poker winnings.
